Utility Locating

Utility Locating with GPR

Buried services rarely follow the drawing. GPR plus line tracing maps what records miss, so excavation starts with a route, not a risk.

Symptoms we're called for

  • Excavation is planned and buried routes are unknown
  • Records conflict with what the ground suggests
  • Locating is needed for a service repair or extension
  • A previous dig struck an unmarked line

Property types

  • Private and commercial properties
  • Strata grounds and parkades approaches
  • Municipal and utility work (by arrangement)

Methods used

  • Ground-penetrating radar sweeps over a marked grid
  • Line tracing and toning of accessible metallic services
  • Valve, hydrant and meter checks to confirm routes
  • Marking and depth estimation for each target

Limitations, stated plainly

  • GPR detects many targets, but depth and soil conditions set the limits
  • Some services require statutory locates; we complement, not replace, BC 1 Call
  • Non-conductive, deep or small lines may be beyond reliable detection

What you receive

  • Routes marked on the surface
  • An annotated locate report with depths and confidence
  • Notes on services that remain uncertain

Next steps

  • Brief the excavation contractor on marked routes
  • Arrange statutory locates where required
  • Re-scan if the dig extends beyond the surveyed area
